Guidance Curriculum

All students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will have preventative guidance curriculum lessons taught once a month in one of their core classes by the CJMS school counselors and/or Montana State University interns supervised by CJMS school counseling staff.
Students receive lessons based on the research-based curriculum Second Step - Skills for Social and Academic Success. The Second Step curriculum teaches students empathy and communication, emotion-management, coping skills, and decision making. These skills help students stay engaged in school, make good choices, set goals, and avoid peer pressure, substance abuse, bullying, and cyber bullying. Second Step is a research-based prevention curriculum.
Please check the counseling calendar for information on when counseling guidance lessons will be held for your student.
